But fortune did not smile on her.
Her business too rain into trouble. Then she switched over to
selling bananas only to count more losses. She found all the
doors of hope closed. She was frustrated. How to survive!
But the worse was yet to come. Her
husband, meanwhile, sold off his shop and the money went down
the drain. Unable to buy food for his five-member family,
Bandona’s husband then sold off his homestead to their nephew at
only Tk 5,000, but could not utilize the money this time too.
Bondana Rani could not decide what to do. They, however,
convinced their nephew not to evict them.
One day she heard about Social
Investment Program Project (SIPP) of the Social Development
Foundation (SDF). She came to know small credit can be availed
of from SIPP.
With a high hope to start the life
anew, Bondana Rani got enlisted in the hardcore poor member list
of her village under SIPP.
A social worker from a SDF partner
organization, BEES, suggested Bondana to participate in their
meetings to have ideas about earning livelihoods. She became a
regular member of it and started attending its meetings.
She got ideas about various
development activities and received training for
self-employment. After the training, she received an amount of
Tk 4000 in seed money from BEES with the help of SDF. With the
money she bought papers and started making small packets from
them.
This time her business has clicked
and it grown from strength to strength. Her products are
regularly delivered to nearby markets by her kids. They also
help her make the packets besides their studies.
Now Bondana is happy. Her husband
who had disappeared having failed to support the family returned
to her. They have already repaid her nephew and reclaimed their
homestead.
Bondana now has a savings of about
Tk 5,000 and dreams of having her name listed in young women
entrepreneurs.
