PRESS RELEASE
 

A five-day training workshop was arranged at BRAC Centre for Development Management (BCDM) jointly by World Bank Institution (WBI), Social Development Foundation (SDF) and Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) in Rajendrapur from May 13-17, 2007. 

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Xian Zhu, the Country Director, World Bank, Bangladesh. In his speech, he expressed his optimism that the workshop, while disseminating the idea of Social Accountability in their community, would further contribute to the Caretaker Government’s attempt at establishing good governance in Bangladesh ensuring transparency and accountability. It would not be possible to overcome poverty without establishing good governance, he told an audience that included the representative from World Bank and Task Team Leader (TTL) of Social Investment Program Project (SIPP) Ms. Meena Munshi and Managing Director of SDF Mr. Muhammad Fazlur Rahman. The workshop was attended by two UP chairmen and 24 representatives from the hard core poor and poor community of the SIPP villages of Gaibandha and Jamalpur. The field level members of SDF’s Partner Organizations (PO) and representatives from SDF and WB were also present at the workshop. The workshop was facilitated by six efficient trainers from WB.
