   About Social Development Foundation (SDF)

The Government of Bangladesh established the Social Development Foundation (SDF) in 2000 as an autonomous organization and SDF was registered under the Companies Act of 1994 on 28 July 2001 as a not-for-profit body. SDF facilitates sustainable social and economic development and poverty reduction by building institutions of the poor at the village level increasing their access to knowledge and resources, and supporting sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Mission    Top

SDF enriches and sustains the lives and livelihoods of Bangladesh’s excluded hardcore poor through an integrated program of empowerment, capacity building, finance, and investment. SDF puts communities in charge of their own development and facilitates that development according to community demands.

Objectives    Top

 

The main objective of SDF is to assist the government in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations and thus help build a poverty-free Bangladesh.

SDF Core Values     Top

The Social Development Foundation is a pro-people  learning organization which is helping the government pull the country out of extreme poverty  through empowerment of the communities and develop sustainable community institutions. To achieve the target, SDF promotes the following non-negotiable guiding principles (core values):

  • Unity and equity

  • Use of local resources

  • Participation and ownership

  • Belief and trust in community wisdom

  • Reaching all the hardcore poor as per the priority list of the communities

  • Community Driven Development (CDD) approach

  • Focus on women, children and youths

  • Building self-reliant and sustainable institutions for the poor

     

    Management Structure of SDF   Top

    The SDF management structure consists of three divisions:
           (a) Programming Division
           (b) Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Division
           (c) Finance and Administration Division (F&A) and
           (d) Disaster Risk Management Unit ((DRMU)

    Each Division is headed by a General Manager (GM) / Project Director (PD).
