Some of our learnings from CIW

   Village Development Committee has potentials for alternate leadership at the village level.

  Hardcore poor, women and disadvantaged groups of the community are capable of playing leadership role in community development.

  The Villagers are capable of identifying their problems and also implementation of community sub-projects.

  The village people though poor, come forward for cash contribution for community sub-projects, provided they have been appropriately motivated.

  Majority of the 12,000 NGOs of our country work on micro-credit distribution but they find a huge number of hardcore poor not eligible for micro credit.

   When the people become aware, they come forward for establishing their rights.

 

Learning from Rural piped water supply

  Demand for pipe water supply is reasonably high in the rural areas. This is partly because of arsenic contamination of large number of shallow tube wells in the country;

  The Community has conceived benefit of running water in kitchen and toilets for household activities including safe drinking water;

  The Community is used to pay electricity charge from Tk. 100-200 in general; During consultative process, the villagers indicated to pay similar charge for piped water supply per month as water tariff.

  The Community is also agreeable to bear the upfront contribution for pipe connection fee from the water main (Taka 500-1500).

  Community agreed to execute an agreement with Sponsor for upfront contribution and payment of monthly tariff;

   Monthly tariff setting demands cross subsidy arrangement to include vulnerable House Holds
